So probably the biggest quarter final in the history of the ATP BNP Paribas open! Tomorrow morning we’ll be seeing a clash of the titans when Roger Federer meets Rafael Nadal! The pair have met 28 times in the past, with Nadal winning 18 times, to Federer’s 10. The pair met during the final’s of this tournament in 2012, with Federer edging out Nadal in 2 sets. Anyways, let’s break this fixture down a bit and see if we can pick a winner…
Both players had equally tough, 3 set games today against Wawrinka and Gulbis so let’s remove fatigue from the equation. Nadal’s winning record is definitely a big factor in this match up, but I think it’s very hard to look past the fact that he’s still not in peak form after returning from his knee injury. Nadal has been able to conquer a lot of top class talent since returning, but former world #1 Roger Federer is a completely different can of worms. Federer won this tournament in 2012, and has a lot more of ATP ranking points on the line in this match up.
Additionally, this is Nadal’s first hardcourt tournament since his injury, and that will definitely be taking a toll on his glass knee.
THE CLEVER BET: It’s hard to look past the reigning champion of the ATP BNP Paribas Open, let’s put our dollars down on Roger Federer to Win @ 1.71 odds.
Cheers,
CB
